چکیده

Oxalate biosensors (OBs) are based on either measurement of oxygen or electrons generated from splitting of H 2 O 2 or heat released during oxidation of oxalate by immobilized oxalate oxidase. OBs are grouped in four classes based on probe used (DO meter, electrochemical, SIRE technology and thermochip). OBs work optimally at: time, 5 s to 15 min; pH, 2.8 8.0; temp., 30 38°C and linearity, 1.0 100 μM oxalate. OBs are employed to determine oxalate in urine, serum, plasma, foodstuffs and can be reused 80-400 times over a period of 3 days to 4 months. This review presents OBs as well as their merits and demerits.

Amperometric biosensor for oxalate determination in urine using sequential injection analysis.

An amperometric flow biosensor for oxalate determination in urine samples after enzymatic reaction with oxalate oxidase immobilized on a modified magnetic solid is described. The solid was magnetically retained on the electrode surface of an electrode modified with Fe (III)-tris-(2-thiopyridone) borate placed into a sequential injection system preceding the amperometric detector. The variables ...

Enzyme Sources for Urinary Oxalate Measurements

An alternative source of oxalate oxidase (Oxox) was to be purified for use in a biosensor system to detect oxalate in patients suffering from primary hyperoxaluria (PH). Oxox has been isolated from a number of sources, however there is significant variation in the information available. Prior to the purification of Oxox, the properties of commercially available Sigma Aldrich Ltd. Oxox were rese...

Histopathological occurrence and characterisation of calcium oxalate: a review.

Oxalosis is the histological manifestation of a number of diverse clinicopathological states involving abnormalities of both endogenous and exogenous oxalate. Crystalline deposits of calcium oxalate, usually first detected by their birefringence, may be characterised by a combination of their physical and tinctorial properties.

Primary hyperoxaluria type 1 with systemic calcium oxalate deposition: case report and literature review.

We present an adult autopsy case of primary hyperoxaluria type 1. Diagnosis was established with skin biopsy and subsequent genetic analysis one month prior to death. At autopsy, calcium oxalate crystals refringent to polarized light were found systemically. Interestingly, however, calcium oxalate crystals were not identified in the bone. Additionally, we have included a review of the literatur...

The Metabolic and Ecological Interactions of Oxalate-Degrading Bacteria in the Mammalian Gut

Oxalate-degrading bacteria comprise a functional group of microorganisms, commonly found in the gastrointestinal tract of mammals. Oxalate is a plant secondary compound (PSC) widely produced by all major taxa of plants and as a terminal metabolite by the mammalian liver. As a toxin, oxalate can have a significant impact on the health of mammals, including humans. Mammals do not have the enzymes...
